The Milomade motto is "Too good to waste..." and Evie Milo is a hoarder and a modern day magpie, constantly collecting lost and unwanted things, forgotten items, snippets of colour and patterns, as well as objects washed up by the sea. Everything is categorised and filed away for future use and informs her practice as a jeweller/designer/maker.
Based on the Fife coast in Scotland, Milomade gives discarded, unwanted items a new lease of life. Through the process now commonly termed as 'upcycling', i.e. the practice of taking something unused/unwanted and transforming it into something of greater use and value, she designs and manufactures contemporary jewellery, accessories and stationery from recycled materials such as buttons, leather, silver cutlery, maps, envelopes, paper, sea glass and fabric.
Evie's button jewellery has developed through her love of finding beauty in everyday items. She has created a unique range of vintage button pendants and button earrings from her own collection of interesting, elaborate and decorative buttons.
Evie's sea glass jewellery is constantly evolving and stems from the power of nature and what it produces. Small shards of glass, possibly dropped into the ocean decades ago have been transformed into a beautiful frosted jewels. Worn down to smooth organic forms by the constant ebb and flow of the tide, it's a mystery where these jewels originated from, in what form and how long ago.
Everyone likes to feel special and receive surprises. Evie has always loved sending and receiving letters in the post and has rekindled her childhood passion for stationery by creating a range made from recycled materials, namely maps, music and envelopes.
